Dell XPS 13 review

While I worked for Google, I had a work Macbook and that was enough for my personal usage as well when I was travelling. But now, I needed a new laptop, so a month ago I splurged on a shiny new toy. Facebook proved itself useful for once: I asked for recommendations and got a lot from my friends. I wasn’t too impressed by my previous Macbook and Lenovo seemed to have ruined their laptops. But one laptop that caught my eye and quickly convinced me to buy it was the Dell XPS 13. The bigger question was which model to buy: the 2018 one, which continue.

2 Cellos concert in Zurich

Last weekend was a very “cultured” one for me. On Friday evening I went to a 2Cellos concert. And boy, did that concert rock. For those who don’t know them, 2Cellos is made by two cello players who take modern songs and adapt them for the cello. They play a large variety of songs, from Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal (their debut hit), to movie soundtracks (Gladiator or Inception), to rock songs (such as Thunderstruck) to mellow songs such as U2’s With or without you (aka the trailer song from Downton Abbey season 2).

To some extent, they remind me of the Piano Guys, to whose concert I continue.

Blade Runner 2049

Blade Runner 2049 poster

The original Blade Runner, which came out in 1982, is an iconic movie. It poses difficult questions, has great monologues about the human condition, and had just enough open questions left to have fans debating pretty much until now. Somehow, Hollywood decided to make a sequel to it 35 years later, but unfortunately it has been a box office flop so far :( Bad audiences, bad! That's why we can't have good movies, only endless Transformers movies :(

I will continue with spoilers

The original movie introduces the concept of Replicants, which are pretty much artificial human beings, genetically enhanced to be much stronger and more resistant than normal continue.

The Piano Guys

Playing I want you Bach

Playing I want you Bach

Last Friday The Piano Guys were in Zürich. I found out about it from an ad on Facebook. It's probably the second time in my life where an advertisement there is actually useful and relevant for me.

They started by playing Batman Evolution, which goes through most of the Batman movies soundtracks and weaves them together.

They explained how they like to combine their love for old classical music with modern songs that are well known by young people. For example, they take every kid's favourite song: Let It Go! and combine it with Vivaldi's Winter.

The duo likes to make fun of each other. Jon continue.

Data and Goliath

Data and Goliath

Bruce Schneier is a well known American security researcher, who has written several books about this topic. Data and Goliath is his latest book about it. I bought it last year, but I only got around to reading it last month (one more win for the reading goal for the year \:D/). First observation: while the book is thick, with 383 pages, a third of it are notes, so it's not that long actually.

While I've heard about various privacy issues and about the mass surveillance revealed by Edward Snowden, I never really did anything about it. I had an adblocker installed, but that was just because continue.

The Force Awakens

The Christmas party organized by Google in Zurich this year was... drumroll a private Star Wars: The Force Awakens screening. They rented out half of Arena Cinemas for half a day and they invited all Zooglers to watch the movie.

Normally I don't go to see movies in the first couple of weeks after they are released, because the cinemas are too crowded, but I couldn't miss such an occasion: a new Star Wars movie!!!!

In general, I enjoyed the movie. I left the cinema like, yeah, this was a good "reboot" of the series and I'm curious how this will continue. Of course, there were some bad continue.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX100 Review

Lumix DMC-LX100

Back in April, after my trip to Geneva, I realized I needed a camera. Just using my phone to take pictures wasn't going to cut it. No matter how good cameras in phones get, they still have a small senzor and a fixed lens, so in many conditions they will produce worse quality pictures than a good camera with the same number of megapixels.

I had been thinking about buying a camera before that too, but then I started doing some research. Initially I wanted to buy a DSLR, but talking to some friends who actually know how to take photos, made me realize that I shouldn't. I'm continue.

Android L preview

main_screen
